Description of the mentorship program:

The NTTR SIG Mentorship Program aims to connect members at various stages in their careers with members with similar interests who are at more advanced stages of their careers. This program offers mentees the opportunity to network and receive guidance according to their current career development needs. This may include support with applications for graduate school, grants/fellowships, internship, postdoc and beyond, as well as collaborative idea generation, analysis support, and writing mentorship. Mentees are encouraged to also become mentors. This is a great opportunity to build mentorship experience and to support a fellow NTTR SIG member.

Some history:

We conducted a pilot of the mentorship program and it was a success! It ran between May and November 2021 and 32 SIG members participated. Based on our mid-and endpoint surveys, 85% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied, and no one was dissatisfied, with their overall experience in the program (survey response rates were 72% and 41% for mid-and endpoint surveys respectively). We are grateful for the thoughtful feedback on the program we received from pilot participants!

What's next?
Based on the feedback we received, the next round will run from November 2023 through October 2024 and sign-up will begin in September 2023. The deadline to sign0up for this round of the mentorship program will be September 30th, 2023. Given the interest in impromptu professional development or consultation meetings outside of the formal mentorship program, a list of mentors who made themselves available for this purpose will be posted on the NTTR website in the Fall and will be accessible in the members-only section of the website. With questions and suggestions regarding the mentorship program, email Abigail Szkutak.

Additional details about the mentorship program:

  • Any NTTR SIG member or affiliate is welcome to participate.

  • If interested, complete the sign-up form linked at the top of this page (in this form you can request a mentor, indicate your interest in providing mentorship, or both).

  • In late October 2023 you will receive an email that states your mentor/mentee match.

  • Once you know who you matched with, we encourage you to connect with them via email to set up an initial meeting, perhaps at the ABCT conference! We will try to facilitate the best match possible based on interests, needs, availability, but encourage you to speak with them about expectations at your initial meeting.

  • Some SIG members have made themselves available for professional development meetings outside of the formal mentorship program.

  • You can access a list of these mentors, their expertise, and contact info here (must be a member/affiliate and logged in to access this page).

**Many thanks to the DIS SIG at ABCT who provided inspiration for this program**
